Our Lesson Structure: The 5E approach to learning Dutch
At TRIPLLLE- Language & Location Lessons, we use an interactive, student-centered approach based on the 5E Model:
Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate
This method ensures that you develop confidence in all key language skills—listening, reading, speaking, and writing—so you can communicate effectively in real-life situations.
1. Engage – Connecting to your world
We start each lesson by sparking your curiosity and activating prior knowledge. This could be through a real-life scenario, an image, a short video, or a discussion topic that gets you thinking in Dutch.
Example: Before introducing a lesson on ordering in a restaurant, we might show a short video of a customer ordering in Dutch and ask, “What words do you recognize?”
2. Explore – Learning through experience
Before introducing grammar explanations, we use a guided discovery approach, allowing you to actively engage with Dutch through practical exercises and real-life context. By exploring patterns and making connections, you’ll start to understand vocabulary and sentence structures before formal explanations are introduced.
Example: You’ll listen to different restaurant orders and match them to images of dishes and food reinforcing comprehension before practicing speaking yourself.
3. Explain – Making it clear
Once you've explored the topic, we introduce clear and structured explanations of vocabulary and grammar in a way that’s easy to understand and immediately applicable.
Example: After listening to conversations, we’ll break down sentence structure, verb forms, and pronunciation tips, so you can confidently build your own sentences.
4. Elaborate – Putting it into practice
Now it’s time to apply what you’ve learned in a meaningful way! Our lessons are interactive and student-centered, ensuring that you actively use Dutch in practical, real-life scenarios. You’ll practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing through role-plays, interactive activities, and problem-solving exercises.
Example: You’ll take turns being the customer in a restaurant, using new phrases while adjusting your responses to different situations.
5. Evaluate – Growing with feedback
To ensure steady progress, we integrate regular feedback into our lessons. You’ll receive personalized support tailored to your learning needs, along with optional homework to reinforce your Dutch language skills.
Example: At the end of the lesson, we reflect on what went well and identify areas for improvement together. Based on your progress and learning needs, we tailor the next lesson to help you advance with confidence!
